We are going to provide a freeform home learning experience. No lesson plans, no fixed subjects, no mandatory subjects,
no timescales, no deadlines, no pressure. We're going to try and bring the same level of education as you would
expect at a school, but if you're no good at a subject, don't take it. Pick what you love, and run with it. We
will also offer message boards, communication tools, e-mail, web site creation tools, and a few games. The games are
there for a reason. In my experience, people with Autism can have short attention spans, but pack a lot of intensity
into short spurts of work. The games will offer a break from working and will be a mix of educational games, and just
plain fun games.
Lastly, we need your input. If you can give us ideas, feedback, or even offer to help, we can make The Autistic Academy
something great.
We're not trying to say "don't go to Autistic schools". We're just saying "Give us a shot, what's the worst that
can happen?"
Development Blog:
20th July 2005:
The Autistic Academy goes online today. Today's work will be to get the main pages into some kind of working form.
In the next few days we will fill out the site with material, tools, links, and games.
This is going to be a daunting project, but I'm determined to make this work. There has to be an alternative to
the current school system, and I think this might be it!
27th July 2005:
Long time, no work. I've decided that I need to do some changes to the front page. I'm going to move the
big introduction to the About Us page. I'm also planning to get at least one GCSE level classroom up and running today.
Probably the English classroom. Seems like a good idea!
